Download Instructions

• We recommend that Windows users download updates using Internet Explorer. The Windows version of Netscape 4.x will corrupt the file during download. Users of Netscape 6/7, Mozilla or Linux/Netscape 4.x can download updates by right clicking on the appropriate link and selecting "Save Link As". Safari users on Mac OS X should Ctrl-click on the appropriate link and select "Save Linked File to the Desktop".
• Each update is provided in the form a .wup (Winteracter Update) data file. This should be installed by running wupdate (the Winteracter Update Installer) which is located in the Winteracter bin directory. Windows users can simply double-click on the downloaded .wup file in Explorer to invoke wupdate automatically. Alternatively, users on any platform can invoke wupdate from the command prompt with the .wup filename specified on the command line. Otherwise, wupdate will prompt for the location of the .wup file via a file selector.
• However it is invoked, the Winteracter Update Installer will prompt for your CD id and key code. These are printed on your Winteracter CD and also on the back of the CD case. When the id and keycode have been entered, the update files will be installed automatically to the directory identified by the WINTER environment variable.
• You must own a licence for the relevant target platform to be able to install these updates. Similarly you must own a licence for the corresponding version. Your keycode will not allow installation otherwise. (e.g. if v5.0 is currently installed you will only be able to install the corresponding 5.0 update.)
• Updates made available here are complete for a given major release. So for example, 5.10g is installable over v5.10 without needing to install the intermediate 5.10a-f updates. To determine the current revision level of your software refer to the Release Notes in the Winteracter help directory (v5.0 onwards) or check the bugfixes file in the docs directory (v4.xx). Alternatively, run the showver batch file or script from the command prompt in the Winteracter installation directory.

Please note: Development of the Mac OS X/PPC version has been frozen at 7.10a. The 7.10a update (available via the link above) is the last for that platform. As of v7.10c, future Mac support will be for Mac OS X/x86 systems.

Winteracter v7.0f Updates

PLEASE NOTE

The original 7.0 release of the Winteracter update installer (wupdate) needs to be fixed before installing a v7.0a (or later) update on Win64, Linux or Mac OS X platforms. This fix is not required on Win32 platforms. Click here to download the update installer fix.
